Bringing Aussie-style ginger beer and cloudy lemonade to British pubs

Three years in Australia changes you. You start saying “heaps” and “far out”, you acquire different varieties of SPF50+ sun tan lotion, and you discover that alcoholic ginger beer and alcoholic cloudy lemonade absolutely slap on tap.

In the UK, you’ll find the odd bottle of super sugary ginger beer/cloudy lemonade, but on tap? Really not much.

Here’s what we learned in Aus and what we’re bringing home:

1) Full-flavour beats everything else.

People want drinks with character; ginger heat, citrus snap, clean finishes. No one wants watery seltzers or the furry teeth you get from +50g of sugar from the usual suspects. When it’s done right, you don’t need hype: the second sip sells it.

2) The beer-alt that isn’t sad.

When you're drifting from lager or cider, and hard-seltzers don't quite cut it, ginger beer or cloudy lemonade's a friendly option when you still want a long drink. Familiar, 4% abv, and above all seriously sessionable.

3) On-tap changes the occasion.

Keg is king. It speeds service, looks great on the bar, and unlocks simple signature serves. Serve them over ice, say g’day to the Wombat Mule or how ya going to a cloudy lemonade Shandy.

4) Simplicity wins service.

Bars are busy. If a drink pours fast, tastes consistent, and the staff can explain it in one sentence, it earns its line.

We’re locking our tasting schedules now. If you’re a bar or venue that wants onto the Wombat map, let us know.
