Our story
We moved to Australia in 2022 and noticed bars across the country served heaps of sessionable alternatives to beer and cider. You could grab yourself a ginger beer, spicy marg or rosé, all on draught.
We surprised ourselves by turning to the other options time and time again when beer didn't quite cut it. The drinks that hit the spot over and over were the alcoholic ginger beers and hard lemonades. Zesty, refreshing, and delicious.
We wanted our mates back home to be able to enjoy these too, so in early 2024 decided to launch our own alcoholic ginger beer and cloudy lemonade in the UK, just without the same old downsides we were used to seeing - high sugar content, high calories, artificial sweeteners and guaranteed furry teeth. April - May 2024
Incorporated in the UK as Wombat Brewing Limited... then immediately changed name to Wombat Drinks Limited. Early concoctions in the kitchen, initial design and merch concepts, marketing ideas, Trello boards and very optimistic timelines. -
June - July 2024
Branding and countless recipe iterations, conversations with potential contract manufacturers and organising deliveries from across the UK, US, Germany and Italy. Some serious lemons in the mix. -
August - September 2024
More recipe iterations, initial can designs finalised and printed, and getting the crew involved in our first tasting sessions... and, the serious lemons getting stuck in customs. -
October - December 2024
Recipes finalised, manufacturer nailed down, last minute packaging changes, trial production kicked off. -
January - February 2025
Website finalised, branding developments, trial production finished, soft-launch.
